I have spent hours discussing tone indicators with neurodivergent friends and whether they are a good tool to keep. We came to a similar conclusion as you, believing that the idea itself isn’t bad, but the “community” based upon it can be very toxic and gatekeeping. But it’s like anything new, not everyone will like it in the very beginning.
