[Video Essay] Politicians and Conspiracy Theories Link to video essay. November 11, 2024 by Nelleke Digital Dynamos 2
What a thought-provoking video! this reminds me of a post that discusses how politicians and public figure uses these kinds of power to deflect on the actual problem they are facing, more so the fact that middle and lower income people are not aware of the effect of class consciousness. Recent news about Luigi (aka the CEO shooter) is also turning into a big debate on wealth and power; he comes from a wealthy family, who can very well pay their own bills, yet he still holds ‘resentment’ towards someone in power.
Most media companies nowadays are also pretty biased when it comes to political coverage. Now that Trump is picked as TIME’s Person of The Year, I am really interested on the future of world politics ahead.
Very interesting video! The conspiracy far-right movement has grown tremendously in the past few years. I think it also resonates with lower-income marginalized communities because it counters the scientific university paradigm, which they are often not part of. Through social media, they can easily get access to (mis)information and challenge scientific theories. I can understand it from their perspective. The (Dutch) government has insufficiently provided necessary services to them, alienating them further from society. The politicians claiming to be anti-establishment (scientists are part of the establishment in this vision), cater to their interests.
