Hi everyone!
In this video I will tell you about my visit to the Nxt Museum Amsterdam. I went with a few girls from the minor to see how it was. I don’t want to give too many spoilers, because you should watch my video of course. I explained how I interpreted the art exhibition and how it made me feel. At the end I gave a general conclusion with the answer: is this the art of the future?
I rated my experience with 3,5 stars from the five. Do you want to know why? You just need to click on the play button or use the Canvas link here.
I recently visited the NXT Museum as well, and my thoughts on this installation being an example of ‘Art of the Future’ differed. Personally, I believe that digital media merged with art is unquestionably a future art form that will be enjoyed by many. Going to an art museum and standing and seeing art in silence is a totally different experience. I believe they both have their pros and cons. On the one hand, we simply use our vision to read about and look at the artworks, but on the other hand, background music, changing lights, and interaction with the artworks involve more than one sense, making it an engaging experience.
Digital art cannot replace art museums or the way they have been portrayed through the years, but it is certainly interesting and exciting to be able to participate with art in new ways, to feel included in art, and to have an experience of ‘the future.’
As @mehak already mentioned, I also enjoy that these kind of exhibitions re-formulate the museum space into an active dialogical space instead of a passive one based on one-way narratives. Personally, I do think that artworks that can create such dynamic conversations in space are indeed the art of the future, precisely because curators and museums as institutions have been shifting towards a dialogical approach to better fulfil their social purpose!
