Welcome to the MetaMedium podcast!
In this first episode, Artemi and Mimi dive into the world of the digital through the lens of well known media personality and singer, Addison Rae. Using Marshall McLuhan’s “The Medium is the Message”, they explore how the medium through which we encounter a celebrity shapes who that person becomes in our minds.
For Artemi, Addison Rae is a serious musician and artist for Mimi, she’s a TikTok influencer and internet personality. This contrast opens a discussion about how platforms influence perception.
Drawing on McLuhan’s ideas and Bullingham & Vasconcelos’ (2013) study, the hosts unpack how online personas can be molded by the digital spaces they inhabit and how fame itself becomes a product of media.
