I checked out thispersondoesnotexist as soon as I finished watching your video. While I didn’t expect to have any sort of emotional response to the photos (after all they aren’t real), I found that I did indeed have that sensation of awkwardness and confusion that you talked about.
Moreover, it made me really uncomfortable. To add to your discussion, I think it has to do with the fact that we make judgements about people based on their looks and we seek connection when looking at someone’s face. However, once we realize that we are not looking at a real person, those instinctive reactions seem to have failed us.
