Minecraft is the most popular video game to this day. One of its hallmarks is its unbound territory that is free to explore by the player and can be mended to their own liking. It likens very much to a wilderness—one that seems as vanilla as they come. But in reality, there is more to it. Join me while I explore the mediation of “wilderness” in Minecraft survival mode in the video below.
I’ve never played Minecrafy myself, but I’ve always liked watching simple playthroughs of the game where I simply wtached people explore or build, so this was a very interesting video to watch. I really enjoyed the way you talked about the dichotomy of this game. Being presented as a wilderness to escape into to get away from our “modern world” while also prompting players into collection of resources or ways of advancing this supposed “wilderness”, therefore reflecting the things we try to escape. Awesome work!
