Interesting perspective! I think the idea of “television is dead” also ties into the fact that audiences now have much more control over what they consume. Back in the day, it felt like audiences were being fed scheduled programming and were stuck in front of the TV at specific times. Nowadays, TV is more like just a “medium”—a tool to stream content from various platforms. Audiences have the freedom to choose whatever interests them, without being interrupted by ads. So overall, I’d say TV is still being used, just in a much more diverse and flexible way!
Indeed a good question! I was immediately intrigued by the title, because I did my futurology presentation about the future of streaming services (or digital intermediates). Maybe it is also a Gen Z thing, but I don’t have the patience anymore to watch “normal” television. The advertisements are way too long when you are used to streaming services like Videoland for example. When there is a popular Dutch television program you can almost always (if you have a subscription) watch this before it comes up in the air.
