Last week, The Kunsthal in Rotterdam opened a large-scale exhibition in honor of one of today’s most prominent artists, the activist, and critic of China’s Communist Party, Ai Weiwei. Titled “In Search of Humanity”, it is Ai Weiwei’s most comprehensive retrospective to date highlighting both the power and personal risks of digital freedom of speech.
Imprisoned for 81 days and living under strict supervision to this day, Ai Weiwei may have been set free yet as a dissident remains entirely erased from the internet in China. Ai Weiwei paid the ultimate price for freedom of speech; freedom itself.
What an impressive exhibition. The dictatorships of this world come to use all this repression against a single individual because his words frighten them. It’s a demonstration of the power of words and art. So, like Ai Weiwei, we must continue to speak and create. Thank you for sharing this in such a simple and straightforward way.
