Reflecting on all my previous blog posts, I’ve noticed that I have only written about serious topics and I’ve gotten a bit sick of it, so for my last post of the course I wanted to do something a bit more casual and I’ve come to the conclusion that the way I will do this is by fully embracing the narcissistic cause for blogging and enlightening you all about what the best 5 games that I’ve played are so you can go ahead and play them too and improve your lives.
Disclaimer: There is no discussing these placements, my word is law and I know better than you.
#5. Rocket League:
Rocket League is a sports game that combines soccer with rocket-powered cars that you can fly into the air to try and score on the other team. Now I truly mean that I absolutely despise this game but I can’t stop playing it. The community is incredibly toxic, I’ve wanted to break my monitor more times than I can count and after 100 hours of playing this game, I’m still absolutely terrible at it but still; this game keeps dragging me back in. For every 1 game that breaks your sanity, you’ll have 5 more where you and your friends will have the best time of your life by collectively being terrible, scoring on yourself, shit talking the other team or very rarely actually pulling off some amazing goals. Truly the best sports game.
#4. Grand Theft Auto V:
GTA 5 is the 5th instalment in the GTA franchise where you can play as criminals basically doing whatever you want in a huge city based of LA. From robbing banks to racing in the sky, This game has everything you would want in an open world game and I have made so many fun memories on this game. the game released in 2013 and while the game has gotten stale for a lot of people (myself included) the game at its prime truly is amazing and I can’t wait for GTA 6
#3. Ark: Survival Evolved:
Ark is a survival game where you can gather resources, build bases and tame dinosaurs by knocking them out and then use said dinosaurs to destroy other players and their bases. The game is a buggy mess and even after watching 10 explanatory videos about the lore I still have no clue what the story is but the gameplay is so much fun. I’ve put almost 500 hours into it and I’ve loved every single hour. From running from a creature 20 times bigger than you or creating a dodo army, to meticulously stalking another tribe, planning and waiting until they’re sleeping to destroy their base, only to have the same thing happen to you a day later. This game is the definition of true dumb fun
#2. Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver, Black/White, Black 2/White 2:
I’ve grouped these 3 instalments together because having these all in my top 5 would make this a very boring list. In these games you embark on a journey to become a Pokémon trainer where you catch and fight with different kind of monsters. Now basically all the Pokémon games follow a similar narrative but these 3 entries are in my eyes the best of the and they have truly shaped my childhood; I still have memories of sneaking my ds into my bed at night so I could play these games at night and taking it with me to school or family gatherings so I could battle and trade with my friends, nephews and nieces. After all these years I still download a rom from time to time and start a new game and it is still fun every time I do.
#1. Minecraft:
while a very basic pick, it just had to be here. There truly is nothing that I can say that hasn’t been said before; There is a reason this is the #2 most selling game of all time, only being surpassed by Tetris. Minecraft truly is the pinnacle of creativity and freedom you could ever get and there is no reason why you shouldn’t play this masterpiece.
I am very happy to see Minecraft on number 1, as it should be. It might indeed be a basic pick, but if we include all the modded stuff… Minecraft suddenly becomes very, very big. While I have not played the others, I can still commend you on your excellent taste from what I have seen on Youtube.
