In this video I will be talking about social media overwhelm. I will define the term sensory overload and relate to Goffman’s theory on theatrical performativity to give an understanding of what it is exactly that is causing us to feel overwhelmed. Furtermore I have listed some tips on how to deal with feeling overstimulated in today’s digital world.
I hope you enjoy watching my video. Feel free to leave a comment!

Yes, you did it Laura! Good job:)
I just read a blog by Francien, and she also discussed the theory by Goffman, I would recommend that to you although the subject is a little different from yours.
I think the Digital these days is pretty overwhelming as we can do literally everything we want with it. Also, I really like the fact that you list some tips and think they can be very helpful. Might be a good thing for me to try out…:) In the end, being patient with yourself is the best tip I guess, as many people can feel really angry towards themselves for still using their phones for example all the time. However, I think getting angry at ourselves is not gonna help us.
I agree that we should cut ourselves some slack! All of modern society is structured around the notion of constant access or constant availability, so it’s hard not to play that game. A lot of the time our level of interaction isn’t even something which we have any control over on an individual level; whether it’s emails from work or online assignments there’s no more separation between your personal life and your obligations and unfortunately that’s unlikely to change any time soon. It’s not any single individual’s fault, so we should be nice to ourselves!
I really liked your video. Especially because it’s so reletable for many of us. I sometimes get really frustrated when I notice when I use my phone. Also sometimes I want to chat with someone, but they are not as much online as I do. That makes me annoyed sometimes when I need to wait for a reply.
So these tips are very handy. And as you said, we need patience with ourselves.
Not my stronghest suit, but I will definitly try! Especially in this age where almost everything is digital we can use a break of it sometimes.
