Bianca and I (Alec) had a great short podcast about mental health and cyborgian implications. We spoke about how we deal with mental health during stressful times (like these exam weeks) and share different methods we have used.
I have added the article of Nafus & Sherman, “This One Does Not Go Up To Eleven: The Quantified Self Movement as an Alternative Big Data Practice”. This reading was assigned in the Big Media course in the first year of Arts Media and Society. I find the thesis of using Big Data to analyse the ‘self’ as a form of soft resistance (activism) an inspiration. Furthermore, because we discuss of how we can process our qualitiative brain I think this article is a nice addition to understanding your own biodivisity in relation to the digital (Big Data).

I enjoyed hearing this conversation and about your experiences! I am a very chaotic and chronically overwhelmed person and having the chance to externalise all of the chaos and give it an order on a digital interface really really helps. Especially because the more I used these tools, such as Google Calendar or Notion, the more my to-dos for the day actually took the shape of the interfaces in my head ! Which calms me down at times because everything already appears “in order” when I think about it. I am a very visual person and already think of time in shapes (each day has a shape in my head for instance) so digital tools have allowed me to anchor thoughts to a “physical” manifestation / visualisation. It is truly incredible how these digital tools can mediate and influence our forma mentis.
