Hey!! I’m sure all of you use different platforms to listen to music, the most common ones nowadays are Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube.
There are different ways of using these apps, the main purpose of course is listening to music; but there are plenty of more uses you can do.
How to use Spotify
There are 2 kinds of people, the ones who make their playlists; and those who simply look for playlists that are already created to listen to depending on your mood at the moment. If you ask me, personally I prefer to look for the playlists and just listen to them. My favorite ones are the following:
I also listen to the Top 50 of different countries. Now I mostly listen to the Netherlands’ one, when I’m in Spain to the Spanish and so on.
The first kind of people I mentioned (the ones who create their own playlists) can be crazy. I have a friend who creates a playlist per month, so she selects all her favorite songs that were released or that she listened the most to and gathers them all together in this playlist. I appreciate that she does that, she also creates playlists for her friends as she selects music that reminds her of them and then sends it to them as a gift. She is crazy about music and can joke about some lyrics she knows by heart, also knows all the singers’ drama.
Can music define your personality?
Some studies say that music can define your personality, so now there is a new way to gossip about someone and it’s looking at their Spotify profile. You can see what is that person listening to and assume how your friend or your brother is at the moment. If they are at the gym, singing in the shower, or crying in their bed.
Why Spotify?
As I said, Spotify is the most famous platform to listen to music, you can use it for free with ads or as a premium user with no ads and with more benefits, such as downloading songs for example. Why is this app so famous? The main reason is the marketing they have. They launched the app in 2006, but it wasn’t until 2013 that they started growing. At first, if a user wanted to use the app for free, they had to log in through an invitation link, if not they all had to pay. Then they launched both options which is what made them more famous.
Also they have the option to share music easily, you are listening to something cool and wants to share it on your stories, just tap twice and there you have your post.
Spotify also suggests live shows near where you live, which I believe it’s a great tool for singers to become famous and for music lovers to find the best ones.
Nowadays they have Spotify Wrapped, which is a resume of what the user has listened the most to, which is her/his favorite genre… And this is a great marketing strategy. This Wrap comes out in December every year, so users start to share them on their profiles. There are even memes created with these templates.
And you? Which platform do you use to listen to your favorite playlists?

hi,
I feel like the rise of spotify has made music a very important part of everyday life. Every type of music has been made easily accesible. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world you can just open the app and listen to music. For me this means that I always listen to classical music when I am studying and I even have a personal playlist which I listen to as preperation for a competition. Do you think that people who make the playlists have more knowledge about music?
hi! wow, your friend who crafts a playlist every month deserves an award… really dedicated. Creating personalized playlists for friends is such a thoughtful gift, though. It’s like giving them a curated soundtrack of the friendship. And I like your take on how music defines personality. Imagine a world where you introduce yourself not with words but with your favorite playlist. “Hi, I’m a mix of indie rock with a dash of ’80s pop – nice to meet you!” haha But I like music, and appreciate diversity of musical tastes. Sometimes, it’s not just about what you listen to; it’s about how the melodies intertwine with your thoughts and emotions. It can be our mood’s best companion. And the annual wrapped on music platform! Actually, I feel like this trend now extended to many other platforms. I even saw someone joking about their dating app wrap. And I feel like this phenomenon is not only just a marketing strategy; it’s a cultural trend. All these reports become a tool for self-discovery and a means to let others into our world, and it all comes down to connection. As for music, it has this magical ability to connect us to ourselves and to others, since it’s the universal language that goes beyond words. Thanks for your blog!
Interesting blog! It definitely shows how Spotify became a whole social phenomenon at this point. As an Apple Music user, I certainty feel FOMO when I read about all the features of Spotify and see my friends’ Spotify Wrapped and playlists. I feel like Spotify is a perfect modern day example of how music can connect and unite people, but with the digital aspect of it, in even more convenient and accessible way.
Wow that friend of yours with the monthly playlist… Very cool, and handy. Me personally just throws everything in one playlist for a couple of years and then switches to a new blanco playlist. I think that the music you listen to has become a very important part of your identity, and due to all the sharing functions of Spotify (including Spotify Wrapped, where I actually wrote a blog about), it has also become an important part of your online identity. People genuinely care about what other people think they listen to. I think this has been an interesting change, also caused by Spotify indeed.
I love the idea of curating a playlist for someone, that’s cool! I am a mess when it comes to my Spotify playlists. The vibes are all over the place, what I really enjoy is the Discover Weekly playlist, which an algorithm puts together for you on your preferred genres and new release’s, always spot on!
Thanks for such a wonderful topic! I strongly consider music to be a tool to unite people and platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, etc. are only helping to create these very special boundaries between all of us.
As you mentioned “personality” aspect briefly, I think that not only music but also the choice of a music streaming platform as well as one’s way of utilising it undoubtedly reflects our personality. I am a devoted Apple Music user, and I am not a real fan of Spotify. I feel like I am more into minimalist and simple use of the platform, as Spotify seems to me more loaded and just a bit “too” much. I am exactly the same person in all other aspects of my life: I appreciate simple and minimalist ways of using/having certain things. As for the playlists of your friend that you mentioned, this is the first time I have heard that people make playlists by month. It is very interesting to me, to be honest, as it is such a dedicated manner to listen to music! And this also could tell undoubtedly something about her personality besides her taste in music (for example, whether she is a hard-working or purposeful person)!
Thank you again for the blog post!
