Duolingo , or “The world’s best way to learn a language” according to the application itself, was launched to the public in 2012, and according to its Wikipedia page, the app has registered more than 500 million users in 2021. I believe that this application was an ingenious way to inspire learners all over the world to try out new languages, and that it is the perfect opportunity for those who are curious to learn without committing to expensive courses or lessons.
That is why I made a video where I showcase some of the main features of the application, which can also be used in a web browser, to remind people that this application is still a great way to get started with languages. As the world is becoming more interconnected, I believe that it is only right that we start to learn and understand different languages, as they are a important aspect of many cultures.
I was wondering whether English is your first language or you are actually learning Dutch through another second language, because that would be even more impressive. Dig your energy as well in how you decide not to go for the streaks, but for the learning opportunities. That is quite impressive in this productivity driven age. Chapeau.
I have a love-hate relationship with DuoLingo… I would love to learn new languages and my bucket list is filled with them: Italian, French, Spanish, Arabic. But oh, once I start DuoLingo it takes less than a week to lose interest and slowly get annoyed by the owl’s reminders to “keep it up”. Anyway, your video did get me thinking that maybe I should soon give the owl a visit again and give it a new try… Now I should just decide what language I’ll pick this time.
